1st Annual Marley’s Miracle Run
You may not knowing it by looking at him now, but Marley has more scars than many other dogs five times his age and not he was not a fighting dog. Marley’s owners said a landlord accidentally left their backyard gate open and Marley got out and ended up in a neighbor’s yard. “Everyone in the neighborhood loves Marley” she said.
Marley is a 2 year old pitbull mix that was brutally attacked with a machete. While the case is still pending investigation we can tell you that the beautiful boy has made a remarkable recovery. He has lost vision to one eye has a fractured leg that is still healing, but when I met up with him he was just playing with the other dogs at the dog park and enjoying the day.
Marley’s owner told me “When I came home I didn’t even know it was my dog. His face was completely shredded.” She went on to tell me that the entire time she was in the car with Marley she thought he was going to die. The area Marley was found in looked like a horror scene out of the most gruesome gore film. A scene that left the entire family in shock. Dr. Jim Koschmann, who along with the team at Crossroads Animal Hospital, saved his life. Dr. Koshmann told KFOX News “I’ve never seen an animal brutalized by another human being like Marley. This is the worst in my 37, 38 years of practice. And I’m sure all of my colleagues around El Paso, if they saw these pictures, would be horrified,”.
More surgeries are expected on his teeth and gums and the vet bills continue to rise. Marley’s owners have said they appreciate the community’s support and have also received donations from citizens that heard about Marley’s story, but she wishes that day would have been very different and this incident would have never happened in the first place.
The case continues to be investigated and there is no way of guessing what will happen at this point but one thing is for sure, the memories of that horrific day will live on for Marley’s family. The family has since moved out of the house where this happened and now have taken extra measures to protect Marley from any chance of wondering too far from home. Marley recently got neutered as well, so we hope that will keep his energy and drive a bit more contained. This story has inspired one local animal lover to organize a fundraiser to help local abused animals.
